Meet the Team: LaWanda Washington

At PetroLedger, we get to know our clients pretty well. We want you to know who we are, too. There’s a lot more personality than you might expect to find at a financial firm, and while professionalism is our first order of business, creating a fun work environment is always close behind! Today we’d like to introduce LaWanda Washington, our Senior Manager of Revenue Accounting. We sat down with her to ask her a few questions and get to know her a little better...

What's a new hobby you picked up over the past year?

I have begun to watch cooking reality shows on Bravo and the Food Network. MasterChef and Top Chef are my favorites.

How did you get into Oil & Gas accounting?

As a new college graduate, I applied for a job with the Coastal Corporation as a Jr. Accountant. This led to other oil and gas jobs with increasing responsibilities. (Side note: I came from a small town in East Texas that only had two-way streets. I had to learn a new city and how to navigate the mazes that Houston calls freeways. That was all before GPS!!)

What is your specific role with PetroLedger, including your day-to-day activities?

I manage the revenue accounting, division order, and owner relations groups. We are responsible for recording a client's revenue and ensuring that they are being paid correctly for their mineral interests. We are also responsible for transferring suspended funds and handling all royalty inquiries that owners may have.

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would you choose?

I would choose a burger cooked medium on a grill with American cheese, mustard and pickles. If I could have it, my side would be shoestring fries or Lays potato chips.

What’s something you love that people wouldn’t expect?

There are 3 things: one, I am avid baker, and I found that baking relieves my stress. Two: I am a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan and have been since the 70s, even when they were 1-15. Finally, I am a Survivor fanatic. I have seen all 42 seasons and have not missed a single episode. I would apply, but swimming is not my strong suit, and I wouldn’t be able to go 39 days without a bath.
