At PetroLedger, we get to know our clients pretty well. We want you to know who we are, too. There’s a lot more personality than you might expect to find at a financial firm, and while professionalism is our first order of business, creating a fun work environment is always close behind! Today we’d like to introduce Joy Brewer, one of PetroLedger's Revenue Specialists. We sat down with her to ask a few questions and get to know her a little better…

How did you get into Oil & Gas accounting?

During the spring of my junior year as an accounting major at Oklahoma State University, the College of Business started a mentorship program with OSU alumni volunteering their time to students.  I was fortunate to have a wise and gracious CFO of a major oil and gas company in Oklahoma City as my mentor.  The company hired summer interns, and looking back, I believe he is the reason I was hired as one of those interns!  The energy industry seemed like a good fit for me, and a year after graduation, I got to work for Samson, where I gained my understanding of oil and gas revenue.  I worked for Samson for thirteen years until my son was born, and I was “promoted” to be a stay-at-home mom.

Are you a cat person or a dog person? Do you have any cats or dogs?

Dog person! Good friends of ours gave us one of their black Labrador Retrievers before we had any kids, and Bobo was the best dog.  We had him for 12 years, and we promised our son Grant we would get another dog. Five years later, we found a black lab puppy and went to pick him up; when we got there, they had two puppies left, so we just HAD to get both— Bullet and Bandit!

If you could bring back any fashion trend from any time period, what would it be?

I  grew up in the best music decade, the 80s, so I’d bring back just a few of those 80’s fashion trends, fluorescent neon colors, polka dots, and side ponytails!

What is your specific role with PetroLedger, including your day-to-day activities?

My main duty is to assemble, record, and distribute monthly oil and gas revenue for operated and non-operated properties to working interest and royalty owners for my clients.  I also collaborate and communicate with different teams and departments, which includes co-workers in GL, Production, Regulatory, Division Orders, JIB, and Client Success.  I handle gas balancing for a couple of clients and also occasionally help revenue interest owners find answers to their questions.  Last but not least, I enjoy communicating with and working for my clients by simply providing excellent service and expertise as the revenue accounting extension of their company.

In your opinion, where is the most beautiful place on earth? Have you been there before?

My happy place is a beach with beautiful sand, blue and turquoise waters, warm sun shining, and blue skies. So if I had to pick only ONE most beautiful place on earth, it’s Hawaii.  Add some relaxing Hawaiian music and it feels like paradise!  I lived there when I was young when my dad was in the Air Force, and my husband Greg and I have been back a couple of times to Oahu, Kauai, and Maui.  All of America is beautiful, however, and as long as I’m with my family, the most beautiful places are getting to enjoy it with them, whether it is Washington to Florida, California to Vermont, Michigan to Texas and anywhere in between.
