Unified by our acquisition of Associated Resources, Inc. this February, we at PetroLedger want our clients to get to know one of the many new faces behind our Land Administration team. Our first team member from Associated Resources that we’d like to introduce is the Vice President of Business Development and Land Administration, Michael Gibson, located in our new Houston office. Today, we’d like to get to know him a little better with a few questions about his life and career.

So far, what has been the single biggest accomplishment of your career?

In the 19 years I have been in the Oil & Gas industry, I have been fortunate to have had so many good accomplishments and met so many wonderful people. But probably my most memorable accomplishment was being recognized by the Texas Independent Producers & Royalty Owners Association (TIPRO) in 2015 as one of the best Landmen in Texas.

Can you tell me about how you got into the Oil & Gas industry?

I was introduced to the Oil & Gas industry by my mentor Randy Nichols, who is the owner of Cinco Energy Management Group. Cinco is a land brokerage firm in Houston that has been around for over 30 years. Randy was a family friend who asked me to come work for him because he thought that I would be a good landman.

I started out in Nacogdoches, Texas, taking leases and learning how to run titles, etc., eventually moving my way into a project manager role, running crews all over Texas. From there, I moved into the Land Manager role, where we continued to grow. During that time, I helped open offices in Denver and Pittsburg, and was involved with one of the largest international company acquisitions with OOGC (the largest Chinese Oil & Gas Company) where they acquired both the northern DJ Basin asset and Eagle Ford Assets from Chesapeake.

Tell me about your favorite music genre, as well as your LEAST favorite music genre.

I love almost all music. Probably my favorite is Country, but more specifically, Texas Country. My least favorite music is Classical.

What is your specific role with Associated Resources, including your day-to-day activities?

My specific role is Vice President of Business development and Land. My day-to-day job is to be involved with the industry and continue to build relationships across all platforms to bring in more work, as well as to oversee all land work by working with Nan Carlson, our Director of Land Administration.

You’ve been given the opportunity to design your dream house! What would it be like, and what features could we expect to see?

My dream house would be a single-story, 4,000 square foot ranch-style home, either overlooking a lake or residing in the Texas Hill Country. It would be a little modern, with a country-type feel and large windows. It would also have a small pool and large covered patios, because I love to be outside grilling and watching college football. Also, I would have a 2,000 square foot shop to work in, and I would have an old truck to slowly rebuild.
