At PetroLedger, we get to know our clients pretty well. We want you to know who we are, too. There’s a lot more personality than you might expect to find at a financial firm, and while professionalism is our first order of business, creating a fun work environment is always close behind! Today we’d like to introduce Carmen Walker, PetroLedger’s Senior Manager of JIB/AP. We sat down with her to ask a few questions and get to know her a little better…
How did you get into Oil & Gas accounting?
Once upon a time…
My very first Oil & Gas gig was with a small Texas Operator. I learned about the “oil field” from the front seat of his Cadillac when he took me to the wells and showed me what a casing head and pump jack looked like. Next, I went to an interview set up by an HR friend, and my career in Oil & Gas accounting was born! Joint Interest billing decks and owner address files were my first taste of JIB, AP, and AR at Sun Oil Company.
Can you tell us about your favorite pastime or hobby?
My favorite pastime is travel— from girls’ weekends in Salado to cruises and exploring and understanding different cultures. My hobby (or obsession?) is playing ukulele. I have several, and I enjoy comparing the tones and sounds produced by the different woods.
Anyone in the market for a ukulele? I am not sure if I am a collector or a hoarder.
What is your specific role with PetroLedger, including your day-to-day activities?
My role with Petro Ledger is currently Senior Manager AP/JIB. My goal is to lead, coach, and mentor this wonderful group through collaboration, trust, and teamwork! While damage control and triage are always part of the manager’s job, it is also important to ensure that individuals are learning and developing— reaching for the next level. I look forward to the challenges of each new day, and I aim to foster a positive, nurturing (and dare I say “FUN”) environment!
What is your favorite restaurant?
Joe Allen’s Restaurant in NYC is one of my very favorite places to enjoy special time with family and friends. It’s a place to get quaint, “homestyle” food while catching a glimpse of Brenda Vaccaro, Sutton Foster, or Alan Alda. But… I have to say I am a forever fan of Whataburger at heart!
